comment Adobe Flash: Getting the Alt-Ctrl behaviour back to normal
@PaulSweatte it may not have been clear in the question but I was talking about Adobe Flash Professional, the creation and programming software, not Adobe Flash Player.

@BobStein-VisiBone I can only remember Microsoft Office. But I haven't tried a whole lot of software.

comment Remember folder window sizes on Windows 7?
I don't think it's possible. Most people expect "an explorer window" to always open with the same size they set it to, and that's what they went for, I guess. I don't think folder-specific window size settings are stored anywhere.

comment Explorer windows prevent Windows's shutdown
I haven't tried waiting for a very long time, but it's at least 30 seconds. As for what is using the folder... I really don't know what that could be. I think it happens with all sorts of folders.

comment Does a windows 8 PC REALLY need maintenance every few months by a tech expert?
I like Avast! a lot. Just open your eyes wide, they make the links to the paid versions big and the link to the free version small. My grandmother was convinced it was telling her she had to pay, but it was just the software asking her to register for free yearly.

comment Dismiss Windows 8 Volume Box (top left corner)
Not a true solution because it's just running from the problem, but I think adjusting the volume from the desktop's notification area icon (the speaker) shouldn't trigger the box.
