comment Auto resizing RAM drive for Windows?
@techie007 it is not a shopping question if the answer is a 'method' to do it with any of the existing software.

@techie007 searched didn't find anything useful, currently using dataram ramdisk, -- I do not think this kind of question (What have you tried) is suitable here, since I am not asking how to code it from scratch.

comment Running windows 8 in a VM - can I use the copy that came with my laptop
Every 'batch' of laptops from each manufacturer get the exact same motherboard and bios and exact same key sticker, windows activation is done OFFLINE by comparing the key to the motherboard's bios , and that is how some activation crack work, they inject the bios manufacturer key into any motherboard, and use paired key and its activated offline forever, if you can FAKE the bios from the host to a virtual guest it should work for an unlimited number of times, if that worked it would be illegal.

I do not think that is enough to reflect to the guest os what the windows is looking for, afaik it only reflect the text labels. -- I googled SMBIOS.reflectHost=TRUE windows 7 oem and got this result saying that it doesn't work: siginetsoftware.com/forum/… -- if that does work, it would allow you to use the oem license on an unlimited number of virtual machines.

Windows activation relies on the BIOS. -- It should not work if it was an OEM activation, it might have been retail or volume license.

That will not work, VMware vCenter Converter does not capture the hardware, it only capture the software and modify the core drivers of the system. -- trying to activate will fail when the activation notice the different motherboard.

comment How can I USB boot a VM in VMWare Workstation 9?
@Tanner It work fine with me, however one thing you need to take care of, when you set it up, it is assigned to a specific physical device by number, like: Device: \\.\PhysicalDrive2, and when you remove it and/or restart the host computer, it might get assigned a different number and will require to re-create a new harddisk, and the old reference could be pointing to a totally different drive.
