comment Change Thunderbird's quote format to use greater-than signs (“>”) instead of margin/border, and bottom-posting
That's what I did, and what I meant by "with or without [the extension]". In any case those tips should only help to remove the bar, right? The SmartTemplate and ReFwdFormatter extensions helped with that, but there doesn't seem to be a way to have >-quotes in HTML mode (as opposed to text mode) replies, right?

I've tried the suggestions at that article - with or without that "Quote Colors" extension (which is actually unsupported for the current version), and I only get the bars to disappear on HTML mode, but not only there's no option to use > instead, also the indentation space remais, for some reason. The AskUbuntu tips helped removing the bar, but seemingly it's not possible to write a template to have > quotes in HTML mode :( +1 though.

comment How to boot into text mode in Linux Mint LMDE (Debian-based)
Hmmm, a broken old laptop as a server... pretty cool idea. I'm also sure your Gnome's not running because it's very prominent by resource usage on top.

@MadBurn I have no idea at the moment, but you can check by running top in text mode, I believe Gnome's process is called gnome-session or something. If I'm not mistaken, it won't be loaded, but again I'm not sure. I'm glad my answer helped you out :)

comment Does window have the ln -s or equivalent?
Also worthy of note is that some people may not be aware, but hardlinks become the file. In other words it's possible to delete the original and the link still works (and this is why it can't work across drives).

comment What does 'make install' do?
@grawity Actually, in Windows it is required to edit the registry for many reasons, such as integration. In Linux, integrating softwares to one another usually just involves copying files or adding lines to config files by something like a post-install script.

Come on, $50 for a screenshot utility when you have Greenshot and similar? Also, the (also free) AeroShot captures the shadows and transparency.

Good point - the audio also has to be separated.
