I thought the suggestion fixed the problem. It's still behaving pretty badly, though I think it help. How do I roll back my mouse driver update? The update was before my oldest restore point and the mouse driver "Rollback" button is disabled...

Hmm. I haven't looked at my mouse driver settings, but now that you mention it, I did upgrade the driver-Why I did I have no clue. It was working before. What kind of extra functionality was I expecting out of my mouse?

Thanks, that worked. and thanks for the information. What I really want to do is to deploy by web site to a friend's server. We didn't have much luck getting VPN to work over the internet so I was thinking that FTP might be easier than emailing a large zip file or using a web sharing site like MSN Sky Drive. Is there any issue with FTPing to a website folder? I imagine not. Many thanks for taking the time to view the screen cast.
