comment How to open huge PNG image
I'd look at the memory usage and swap settings of GIMP, set them up properly so that it has a specific upper limit (e.g. 10 GB) on its memory use, and then I'd open the image with GIMP.

comment NetworkManager in text mode for Ubuntu Lucid
A quick follow-up: wicd didn't work out for me, sometimes it failed to connect to hidden wireless networks, and GUI integration wasn't good enough. I ended up switching back to NetworkManager, using cnetworkmanager and nmcli to drive it from the command-line.

comment Any way to increase pagefile above 4096 MB?
@Ramhound: Some 32 bit operating systems can use more than 4GB of RAM and more than 4GB of page files -- 32-bit Windows XP can't, but other 32 bit operating systems (such as i386 Linux with PAE enabled) can. So it's not necessary to install a 64 bit operating system to use a larger page file.

Thank you for mentioning btrfs. Unfortunately I couldn't find the feature you mentioned. spinics.net/lists/linux-btrfs/msg05617.html says that in July 2010 this was not possible. Could you please cite your source stating otherwise.
