comment .htacess virus - does anyone know how to get rid of this thing?
Sounds like a good compromise. I hope you understand that I wasn't trying to put down your answer at all, which is specifically why I didn't downvote. It's a very helpful answer; I was just looking to promote fairness and transparency, hence the edits to clarify, etc. Thanks for your contribution!

@Harpreet: there is nothing wrong with quoting an answer from elsewhere. And yes, I would upvote the original post. You're not stealing anybody's points, and acknowledging that it was a quote and linking to the source was well done. My point was that you were getting credit for an answer which was almost entirely somebody else's. For an answer which was directly copied, community wiki seemed like a good solution since it allows other users to add to/edit the quote, and prevents any contention over votes, since CW posts don't earn/lose rep.

comment Help on writing Linux script to backup and ftp files to another server
It could work fine - I didn't vote to close, I was just thinking he may get better results from people who more regularly deal with this sort of thing (backing up databases, etc.).

This question may be better suited for serverfault.com.

Sorry, after re-reading, I see that you are looking for a client, not a server. The Remote Desktop client is already built into windows.

comment How to switch the operating system fast enough when a friend wants to use my computer?
Have you considered setting it up to switch users and then just setting the file permissions on your various secret files accordingly? Keep in mind that all a user would have to do is exit the VM, and bam, they're right there logged in as you, ready to do as much damage as they want.

@Harpreet - I agree with @Hello71 that it's bad form to just copy an answer verbatim from elsewhere, especially since you are now getting credit for somebody else's answer. I am not voting down your question, but I did edit it to make it more clear where the info originated from, and I would suggest making your answer community wiki, since that would prevent you from gaining unfair rep points from upvotes for an answer you didn't write (you'd keep what you already got), and would make it possible for any user to help contribute to this answer.

Set quote to quote styling, clarified source of answer, improved formatting, changed hard-coded path (C:\documents and settings\....) to variable path (%APPDATA%\...)

comment Laptop not powering down when lid is closed, but when lid is opened
Has there been any damage to the computer's screen/lid area? I have an old Dell which I've dropped a few times, and that messed up the trigger switch for detecting whether the lid is closed or not. Because of this, it only seems to detect that the lid is "closed" when it is being opened past a certain point.

@subanki - I completely agree, this is a great question and fantastic subsequent answer. If you like his question, you should vote it up! It would be nice to see a way built-in to Windows, but I sort of doubt that exists, so this is quite handy.

@Nano8Blazex, it looks like the download contains both an AHK and a compiled EXE, so you wouldn't need AutoHotKey installed to use it.
