@MichaelKjörling interesting idea, but what would be the actual options to use to implement the desired effect? Remember I want hard-links wherever possible, and from a content perspective an absolute mirror.

comment kill a hung xterm
fantastic. I was stuck in the middle of less-ing a file. I could kill the less command, but it wouldn't do anything. And the parent shell couldn't be killed! At last xkill the xterm did the trick.
