comment Why can't I control the speed of my CPU fan?
@Breakthrough the difference is that you have feedback loop which controls the rpm of the fan. Setting the fan to 800 rpm may cause, in some cases, CPU overheating.

Nice and detailed answer. Thanks. I am familiar with electronics and your solution, I just think it is not a good idea to do that.

nope, all fan sockets are 4 pins. I think i got wrong fan, since PWM indicates that it can be controlled and thus it should have 4 pins.

Yes, the cpu_fan socket has 4 pin but the fan has only 3 wires.

The fan is connected to the mobo to the cpu_fan input and it has 3 wires. I can read actual rpm of the fan in BIOS and in the software, I just can't change the speed.

comment howto use external monitor without shutting down the lid
thx for the reply, but this does not seem to work for me. I did as you said. (0) both screen are on (1) turn on mirroring (2) press the keys to turn off the screen - at that point both screens are turned off and I wish to turn off only the lid.

comment Connecting LCD monitor (without tv-tuner) to cable-tv
@Molly strange because I had a look on elegato EyeTv USB sticks and they say that for 1080p you need Intel Core duo. The movie is great.

Atom CPU will not handle the 1080p full hd decoding :( it has to be at least intel core duo 2.0Ghz.

This is for Denmark TDC Cable. I would probably buy things in Germany. In .dk shop they told me that it is not possible to do that due to fact that "some" frequencies are different.

can i just buy set-top-box (digital receiver) without whole computer? I have dvb-t signal and I would need to convert it somehow to hdmi first.

Thx for the hint with the -C. Actually I am using it all the time. I does not make big difference. I think it has to do something that NX sends a lot of very tiny packets which makes that your application runs smoothly. That's what I would like to achieve without need to install nx server remotly (I do not have root access there and there is no X server installed).

Hi, thx for the answers. The problem is that I do not have root access on that system and there is no X server running. Therefor I use ssh -X to forward GUI applications to my X server running locally on my workstation. I am fan of NX but I think it will not help in this situation while it needs NX server running remotly?
