comment Excel choosing x lowest values from 10000 records
Nice touch with the ROW() function. I can think of a lot of places where that could be useful.

comment Excel gives error whenever I paste a code with “,”
I think so, but you will have to change the decimal separator too. Otherwise a number like 3,400 might be three thousand four hundred, or it might be 3 and 400 in a list of two numbers. To change the regional settings see office.microsoft.com/en-001/access-help/…

comment Memtest86 failing address
@Dennis: I agree. Still, I don't understand how a memory problem would cause the computer to slow down. Maybe that's just a coincidence though. The shut down is certainly consistent with a memory problem.

comment Memtest86 failing address
Although there is a good chance this is a memory problem as other answers state, its also possible the CPU is overheating and causing the problems. See superuser.com/questions/775/how-do-i-clean-dust-from-a-computer.

You can change the drive letter assigned to the device when needed. See superuser.com/questions/81286/… for instructions.

Do you need the line numbering to start at 1 for both extracts?

comment How can I confirm my new notebook battery is genuine?
My old IBM Thinkpad battery utility would indicate if the battery was not genuine. The HP Battery Check utility may do the same.

comment How is TCP/UDP checksum working?
For (1) and (2) see the modified answer. For (3) I don't know. I've always let the IP stack take care of this for me.

comment Identical displays look different after calibration
Digital and analog connections on the video card can also have an effect. I have one monitor on an analog connection and another on a digital connection. Even though the monitors are identical the colours are noticeably different. No amount of tweaking will make them the same.

comment Firefox blocking certain embedded fonts (e.g. Google fonts)
I don't have any problem with the Google Web Fonts page using FF 19.0.2 on Windows 7, 64-bit. That suggests the problem isn't the cross-site permissions, or at least not that problem by itself.

comment How do I find what runs when when returning from Windows 'secure' screen mode?
What type of PC and video card do you have? It's likely worth checking if you have the latest video card drivers too.

I dont' know the answer, but Internet Explorer Version - Internet Explorer 6.0.2900 rings alarm bells for me. This browser is really ancient and should be updated.

+1 for the first sentence - it made me laugh - and then for answering the question anyway.

comment Can updating the hosts file in Windows via batch file cause harm?
The difference between 0.0.0.0 and localhost is that the first is not a valid IP address, and the second is the IP address of the local PC. Using localhost will redirect packets to the local PC rather than nowhere. If, for instance, you have a web server on the local PC then it will serve up a page rather than the request going nowhere. Either is valid. It depends on what you want.

comment Is there a difference between removing the power cable from the computer or removing it from the wall outlet?
Building in Nicole Hamilton's suggestion, it's also possible that removing the cord from the device results in less disturbance to the crime scene. Crawling under a desk, etc. could disturb other evidence.

comment Which folder is recycle bin in on Win7? How to check files there?
If you are sure that the files are of no use then it's OK to delete them as far as I know. I've cleaned up files and folders created by other users without problems many times. It's unfortunate that Windows doesn't provide some way to do this as administrator, since left over data from deleted users can take up a lot of disk space.
