comment How can I create a list of named folders in Windows automatically?
@DavidPostill. I agree, which is why I worded it the way I did. But it's MUCH better than creating folders 1 by 1. Perhaps I should delete the answer and make it a comment?

comment URL Rewrite - rewrite all requests unless they are for an existing application
So how are you distinguishing the apps? It should still work with subdirectories. SomeDomain.com/ = main app, SomeDomain.com/app1, SomeDomain.com/somedir1/somedir2/app2, SomeDomain.com/somedir1/somedir2/app2/somedir3/app3, etc. Anything that matches will automatically match the proper application. The only issue I can think of is if your main level domain is not the main "default" app.

I guess we should clarify, how are your applications distinguished? Are they different domains or different subdirectories? Can you provide example URLs for the different applications?

I think you misunderstood what I was suggesting. Move all 4 applications out of the default website- you want 4 separate applications. Set up host headers for the first 3, and leave the host header blank for the main application, which will act like the catch-all. More info can be found here: serverfault.com/questions/279688/…

Typically, you would have separate IIS "applications" for each website. So requests for any particular website would go to the proper place already. (You shouldn't need to rewrite a request because it would already go to the right place.) You can do the same for mainApplication too, and still not need any redirects. Then you would set up all other requests to be ignored, or setup mainApplication to be the catch-all.

comment Overwrote Bitlocker MBR
@Ramhound - so basically you're saying that if OP didn't list some of his ideas, the question would have been ok? I think it's perfectly fine to list ideas you have, so that if someone knows the answer, they can just say, "Go with option 3", or "definitely don't go with option 2 because you'll make things worse.", etc.

Why was this question downvoted? Seems like a fine question to me.

comment Took laptop apart, no longer will stay on while using battery
I'll be shocked if this works, but it's worth a try. I heard someone say they fixed a non-charging battery by turning on the laptop without the battery in, and then inserting the battery while the laptop was on. I have no idea why that would work though...

comment Laptop battery completely discharges while in the laptop, even when not in use
Could this be "sleep" versus "hibernate"? If I put my laptop to sleep, it will discharge in a few days. Hibernate (or complete shutdown) it will not. Sometimes when sleeping you can see a blinking light. With hibernate or complete shutdown there are no lights at all.

Obviously the laptop can tell the difference between the battery there or not, so this might be a classic case of "laptop battery detected but not charging". I assume when you ran the power upower you were plugged in, yet it shows "discharging" rather than "charging", so this confirms my guess. There are a lot of reasons that could cause this. All are hardware related. (Dirty battery contacts, motherboard charging circuit, even bad battery though that seems unlikely since it worked before you dismantled the laptop.) But maybe something got knicked while removing the keyboard....

If your laptop is on and plugged in, and you pull the battery out, what happens?

Does the battery level also show 81% when the battery is disconnected? (I want to know if it acts differently with the battery connected vs not connected.)

comment Some websites never finish loading
Just to reiterate: you have a cable modem/router in one unit. You have two PCs connected to two of the ports in the back of the router. If you open web browsers on both PCs, and navigate to the same web page at the same time from each PC, PC 1 always works. PC 2 sometimes works and sometimes times out. Is all that correct?

I know you mentioned that another PC works fine on the same router, but are you able to bypass the router with the problem PC and connect directly to the internet? It would be nice to completely rule out the router if possible.

If you click the refresh button on the browser for a site that failed, does it then load, or maybe it loads after a couple of refreshes?

comment Why redirecting FINDSTR output produce UNIX line ending?
The findstr function is probably not relevant. Likely it's just that the file is in unix format to begin with. See ansgar's answer: stackoverflow.com/questions/17579553/…

Can you hit your webserver from another machine on the internal network using the internal IP? Try both 80 and 800.

comment DHCP letting multiple devices get same IP address - how to trouble shoot?
Are you sure the APs are all "getting" the IP from the DHCP server? Maybe they are mistakenly statically assigned to the same IP?
