comment Can I use a chromebook as a ssh workstation?
People call me crazy, but I'm a data scientist and I use a Chromebook in exactly the way you described. I've put my Chromebook in developer mode and I connect to a computational server with a lot of horsepower over SSH. Once there, I mostly use command-line tools (Vim!) and a few powerful web applications (iPython notebooks!).

comment How to recover a removed file under Linux?
This method works wonders for text files, thanks! What I like about it is that it doesn't rely on the filesystem's journal (like extundelete), but it actually scans the raw bytes of the entire drive instead. If this command doesn't find your file, nothing will.

comment Remote control and screen sharing for Ubuntu
It's the same page that MariusMatutiae referred to in another answer: help.ubuntu.com/community/VNC/Servers#tightvncserver . It's very easy. Good luck!

comment How to recover JPG files that turned into folders on a portable drive?
I have some experience with PhotoRec and it indeed works great. I don't think it has a graphical interface, though, which might be scary for some Windows users. If you want to try this application, I'd recommend to look at this guide: cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step

comment Is it safe to resize a BTRFS partition that is part of a multi-device volume?
I took a risk and resized the BTRFS partition using the latest GParted live CD. The process took about 6 hours, but it was a success. When I rebooted, Linux detected the change in filesystem size and the additional free space was already alocated to the /home volume.
