comment 32-bit XP mode for 64-bit Windows 7 machine
Yes, I can confirm that it is 32-bit XP, even on 64bit Win7. It also runs 16bit programs, which 64bit XP can't do at all. It allowed the install of a 32-bit "quasi-driver" for my Juniper VPN connection, which would not work AT ALL on x64 Vista/Win7. On another note, the whole feature is very impressive. Yes, other VM solutions could do it, but to do it without having to procure an XP license is what makes it the best option for most IMO. It also requires no real training as 16-bit programs can be executed in XP mode from the Win7 start menu without even bringing up the XP GUI.

comment Power supply issue? New Radeon5850's fan runs at full speed and PC doesn't boot
BTW, it's really not 2 12V rails...it is one rail with 2 current limiters. Actual dual rail PSUs are extremely rare. Another good alternative is a SINGLE rail power supply. Basically, it eliminates these "current limiter" issues entirely.

comment Do I need to have 3 RAM DIMMs to use DDR3, or even be able to run a 3 channel CPU?
Many Dell and other OEM systems list Core i7 9xx systems with 8GB of RAM, and this is only possible in Dual Channel.

comment Installing Windows 7
I agree...go 64bit if you have a 64bit CPU (Pentium D+, Athlon64+). I have never run into a situation where hardware I own didn't work. Having only 3GB of useable RAM today is lame. Win7 ultimate also has a component that will run a full copy of XP as a virtual machine, but you will need a CPU with virtualization support (and it must be enabled in BIOS). In the VM session of XP in win7, it will run 16bit code and allow the installation of 32bit drivers (at least in my case for a Juniper VPN clinet that was 32bit only). It's pretty slick, really.

comment Can I charge USB devices from a powered hub that isn't connected to a PC?
It should be noted that not necessarily any USB hub will work for charging. Many devices actually need to connect to a USB controller to negotiate how much current they will need. Many cheap hubs and wall warts don't even use the 2 data pins, and for the devices that need it (for example, DualShock3), they will not charge. I can say that Logitech makes USB hubs that have the required controller, and are small and inexpensive.
