I don't if or how to do it on SUSE, but on a Debian system you can auto-repair by adjusting the FSCKFIX value in /etc/default/rcS.

What do you expect to happen instead? When you have filesystem corruption that stops the bootloader, you really do need to fix that before it boots.

The host probably setup an additional virtual host configuration that had the PHP engine disabled. By adding a host entry you were instructing your system to use the alternate virtual host config.

I would start by doing a traceroute to the servers you think may be intercepting. I think there are even tools that could do a UDP based traceroute with the port set to 53. See where the replies come from.

@Ramhound he is talking about an ISP using something like NAT or route trickery to make something like Google's DNS be redirected to the ISP DNS servers. Something like this. serverfault.com/questions/672472/…

This might be a indication that your flash drive dieing. Some drives go into a read-only mode when they are failing.
