Is source a bashism? If so, you should invoke bash instead of sh. Note: It is, you should do ". /home/user/.profile" instead.

@Arjan - The Server header has nothing to do with HTTP version supported by the HTTP server (so the suggestion that their web server "does not accommodate HTTP 0.9/1.0" is completely erroneous).
