comment Hard symbolic link directory
They are probably under different mount points, so they are not hard links, although they may end up referencing the same directory.

comment Linux - Increase volume for HD mp4 files
If you can just copy the audio data (-acodec copy) then there should be no difference between input and output audio, unless you have audio level metadata that you are not copying (EBU R128 or ReplayGain).

comment VOB conversion quality in FFmpeg
You must be using an old version, since the -sameq option is obsolete. In old versions use -vcodec/-acodec instead of -c:v/-c:a.

comment Strip metadata from all formats with FFmpeg
Using the current ffmpeg, the creation time can be changed with -metadata creation_time=2012-12-17T21:30:00 (UTC).

comment Strip metadata from all formats with FFmpeg
In mov or mp4 files, creation date is an integer field in the movie header and track headers (expressed as seconds since 1904). Although you could set it to 0 or some other fixed value, there is no way to remove it and still have a valid mov or mp4 file.

comment How to apply audio track to a mute h264/mp4-video losslessly?
Also you may want -shortest if you want it only to be the duration of the shortest input (helpful if the audio is music that is longer than the video).

@H.B. I replaced the ugly perl hack in my answer with some tools that should be able to do a better job.

OggS should be at the beginning of each Ogg Page. I've expanded on my answer to address the issue you are seeing.

comment Converting Audio To Video Output and Attaching Text?
Are you looking for automatic transcription or manual transcription? Automatic transcription will probably not be very accurate, with many errors. Or are you just asking how to convert the text to video?

He said he wanted to do that replacement manually. Perhaps the most appropriate replacement is context-dependent.

comment Naming confusion : Why it is not called Decoding but Encoding in every browser?
Each document has a property called its Encoding and this option allows you to override that property. Some operations such as saving a page to disk may just write the name of the encoding and not actually decode anything.

comment “Target filesystem doesn't have sbin/init” after cloning boot disk with dd
Without noerror it will stop copying when it sees an error. With noerror but not sync it will skip over the input block that is in error but then all of the blocks after that will be written to the wrong place (one block earlier). conv=noerror, sync will write a block of zeros for every error block to keep input & output synchronized.

comment Can't delete a directory on external drive (OS X)
Probably the readonly attribute is set. I'm not sure if there is a way to change that flag on a directory from the Mac.

comment Are there undeleteable files in Linux?
That usually means that the file name is listed in the directory, but it could not access its inode. It might have a bad inode number in the directory or the inode on the disk may have been corrupted.

comment Is there a tool like fs_usage that will show the specific bytes being read or written?
There is no ktrace on my OS X 10.6 system. It was replaced by dtrace in 10.5. support.apple.com/kb/TA24816
