@Ivo: Happens all the time when you're "stuck" and then figure something out, in my experience.

Key phrase being "if I need to". Would you know if you need to or not?

Hmm, interesting info, but I'm not sure I have anything like that. I'm not using anything wireless, and I only have WMP installed for DVD playback. On the other hand, it used to usually work and now seems to never be working, so I must've installed something recently that's blocking it..

Drobo might be a good compromise between WHS and a NAS, if you don't care about the OS-backup/web-sharing/other WHS features.

This is good advice..I should take it. BOINC also lets you set a schedule if you don't want it generating heat for you in the middle of the afternoon, etc.

comment Burning a Data CD in Windows 7 not recognizing discs
I was really trying to avoid a separate utility..simplicity and all that. I did try closing the tray, different discs, etc, still complained it needed a writable disc. Steps 2-3 didn't apply because I had disabled AutoPlay, but it seems like they may be necessary for it to work..so I re-enabled AutoPlay (and apparently had to reboot, too), and then got the pop-up and everything else worked as it should. Seems like the AutoPlay-initiated "formatting" (setting it as a Mastered disc) is required for the rest of the burning functionality. Annoying..

In my Advanced power settings, "Require a password on wakeup" is set.. I'm going to try disabling the automatic display-off and see if that works around it.

comment Why does my caret position change mysteriously while I type?
Some drivers will detect "erroneous" touches on the trackpad and ignore them..so it's possible the default one doesn't do so.
