My favorite Jon Skeet Facts:

  • When Jon Skeet's code fails to compile, the compiler apologises.
  • Anonymous methods and anonymous types are really all called Jon Skeet. They just don't like to boast.
  • If Jon Skeet posts a duplicate question on StackOverflow, the original question will be closed as a duplicate.
  • JONBERT
  • Donald Knuth wears a "Jon Skeet is my Homeboy" t-shirt to show off at parties.
  • Q: Can Jon Skeet ask a question that even Jon Skeet can't answer?
A: Yes. And he can answer it, too.
  • Users don't mark Jon Skeet's answers as accepted. The universe accepts them out of a sense of truth and justice.
  • Superman wears Skeet pajamas to bed!
  • The Dining Philosophers wait while Jon Skeet eats.
  • Jon Skeet does not sleep.. He waits.
  • Google is Jon Skeet behind a proxy.

Enjoy your day on SkeetOverflow

It worked for me to disable the PepperFlash DLL ("Type: PPAPI (out-of-process)") which comes with the PortableApps version of Chrome. Instead disabling the Macromedia DLL ("Type: NPAPI") did not work. Thanks!

rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState is not recommended. It is dangerous. (Because it corrupts the stack, as it does not comply with the function signature demanded by Rundll32. Then unforeseeable bad things may happen, as Raymond Chen warns…)

comment Archive a restore point permanently?
It didn't work for me and I guess it wouldn't work for anyone else. I'm not completely sure, because my system is so buggy right now, that it might have failed for secondary reasons. But I tried hard. When I simply copied older Restore Point (RP) files into C:\System Volume Information, System Restore didn't see them BUT deleted the 2 oldest RPs it had still seen up until then - so be careful! Then I tried replacing the whole folder from a backup but then Windows wouldn't boot anymore until I switched back to the current folder version.

@grawity: Thanks! How did you find the documentation for Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState? (I had no success with two quick googlings.)

How do you tell that a function was not designed for Rundll32?

Apparently it does not: superuser.com/a/331545/21887 So it is considered dangerous to use this method and not recommended. (It corrupts the stack.)

wizmo.exe quiet standby suppresses arguably annoying beeps by wizmo.exe.

The ! in wizmo.exe quiet standby! enforces the StandBy even if applications object. quiet suppresses arguably annoying beeps by wizmo.exe. (In case someone wondered.)

you might want to try the vimtutor tutorial to for an introduction to some basic elements of all the magic vim has to offer. To find out how to start it, you can type :help vimtutor <Enter> in vim's Normal mode or follow this link: vimdoc.sourceforge.net/htmldoc/usr_01.html#vimtutor
