I do Technical Support for two businesses; a small ISP and a large University. On the side I run a Minecraft server, fiddle in various Linux distros, and program (mostly Ruby).

Cool, I didn't know that. Thank you, sorry for the error.

I'm actually pretty sure that they are not identical, not even close. There is a great variation in Bittorrent client features. But I could be wrong, I have not used the default Bittorrent client in several years; perhaps they aimed for feature parity with uTorrent.

comment Force Windows 8 Metro apps to run lower resolutions below 1024x768?
Microsoft stated very clearly that Microsoft guarantees a minimum resolution for Metro apps. They won't run below that resolution because they simply can't; they aren't designed for it. If there is a workaround, I would not be surprised if many/most Metro apps break.

Thank you very much, this worked perfectly. I still think there must be a way to open a particular 'Internet Options' dialog, but this workaround was quite sufficient for to help the customer.

comment How to differentiate SSD hard disk and a SATA hard disk based on physical appearance?
I would suspect that you can guesstimate based on weight, but I haven't handled any 2.5" non-SSD drives in a long time, so I'm not sure.

@lszi, you should answer your own question. A good answer to a good question are both valuable, even when you answer it yourself.

I'm not quite sure I understand though; fetching a file (such as setx) can be done via the command line. Wouldn't that be a viable solution? Ahh, I see, you can't guarantee Internet access. But you're sending them a script... why can't you send them setx as well?

@lszi Being able to do it remotely, were it possible, would get around the limitation of "Using only tools which would be available on a bare install of Windows XP SP3".

comment Install Linux on this Computer
I guess I'm a bit confused; the obvious first choice would be to download and burn a LiveCD of whatever distribution you prefer. Can you identify why this is not an alternative?
