I do Technical Support for two businesses; a small ISP and a large University. On the side I run a Minecraft server, fiddle in various Linux distros, and program (mostly Ruby).

comment Logoff and then sleep in Windows 7
I am not aware of a way to log off and sleep. Like @Jay recommends, you can set a normal Sleep timer (such as 15 minutes) and just Log Off, trusting the timer to put the computer to sleep a little bit later.

comment Invalid (100°C?) CPU temp sensor - how do I disable throttling?
When initially turned on, at the BIOS screen, if you are any hotter than 60°C something is horribly wrong. Try this: Turn your computer off. Leave it off for 30 minutes. Turn it on and go directly to the BIOS. It will start at about 25°C (room temperature) and rise from there. If you are over 60°C in under the 60 seconds it takes to reach the BIOS sensor, then something is horribly wrong with your heat sink.

comment Detect Tor bridge inside my network
I would hazard a guess of 'so he can have concrete evidence when he goes to the admins'. It's like having photos when you go to the police; they're more likely to listen and follow up if you can do half their work for them.

comment Can a wireless mouse dongle be used to connect to a cell phone?
I doubt your phone has any way to handle a mouse. The attachment for the wireless mouse would allow the phone to talk to the mouse, possibly... if your phone had any need for mice. I'm not sure what you desire to accomplish, even if it works.

comment Google Chrome cannot be installed on Windows XP because “the version is not suported”! What should I do?
What service pack of Windows XP is it? It's not uncommon for software to require SP3, and there are many people who never upgraded to XP SP3.

comment When using the Access Table Analyzer Wizard, I get the error “Cannot define field more than once”
But it's not about failing to make the right decision... it's about taking a table, manually splitting out the columns, and it fails to link the tables properly. There are no decisions it's making, it's simply (failing to) creating the new indexes.

comment When using the Access Table Analyzer Wizard, I get the error “Cannot define field more than once”
The analysis wizard allows you to choose your own structure; it's not like I allow it to do the deciding. However, when it works, it is a much faster way of splitting the normalized data out and leaving FKs behind. In other words, the wizard makes splitting tables easier, even when you're doing all the deciding of what to split and how.

comment When using the Access Table Analyzer Wizard, I get the error “Cannot define field more than once”
I can, and did in the end, but that does not make this bug any less frustrating. The full normalization I needed to do was actually more complicated than two columns, but I was able to replicate the issue with this simpler dataset.

comment Powerpoint does not play Embedded Audio (voiceover)
Yeah, that was the first thing I checked. I forgot to mention that it is not app specific volume.

comment Why do my files have a gray X on them?
This is related to network file availability I believe. I don't know a better answer though. TortoiseSVN re-uses the built-in Windows icon overlay for its own purposes.

comment How do I elevate the priority of a process without giving that process superuser rights?
This would work, but I think it's even more awkward than the answer I gave (sudo nice -10 sudo -u user command)

comment How do I elevate the priority of a process without giving that process superuser rights?
Thank you kindly. I can set the minimum priority for the user to -10, and skip using sudo completely.

comment Problem with Powerpoint: Embedded Audio
That was my initial belief. I was wrong. Both powerpoint files were encoded in WAV format, using one of the shipped-with-windows algorithms. However, I was unaware that you could access the media files directly if the file was saved in the new format; I will check that and see. I never found a solution to the problem; we just re-created the files from scratch.

comment Can I merge Inbox and Sent Items into one view in Outlook 2007?
Delivery to the Sent Items folder is easily turned off. The result is only a single copy of messages you send, in the 'super inbox'.

comment Why is audio quality so good (as reported by the people I speak with) in Skype-type voice chats even though I'm not using a headset?
This question doesn't seem to have anything to do with Skype, since the quality is good with multiple applications.
