comment Is it possible to boot Windows 7 from a USB thumb drive?
I think this would be a nightmare for M$. If they made this easy, their whole paradigm of locking an install to a machine would go bye-bye. It would become trivial to pirate windows. Good question though!

comment How can I see processes running in Windows 7?
+1, this is a slick tool. Since MS bought SYSInternals a while back, one has to wonder why they don't drop task manager and replace it with this one. The process tree feature alone is great, but the search for open DLLs has saved me countless hours. It's just a superior tool.

There's a lot of good info in your answer, so even though it really didn't solve my problem I'll accept it for want of anything better...

comment How to fake OS bit version check on some software
+1, I detest software that refuses to install because of what it thinks it is capable of running on. Give me a warning and let me proceed at my own peril. I won't buy HP printers any more because their software wouldn't install on my W2003 Server (among other reasons).

comment Windows 7 won't update
+1 interesting question, never seen that before. Usually windows update is very in-your-face, rebooting you at inopportune times :-)

comment What is a good (free) VM solution for windows 7
That said, the reviews I've seen comparing the two seem to favor VBox. I just can't make it work with the audio on my W7 host.

This link: vmware.com/support/player30/doc/releasenotes_player3.html seems to indicate that it does have this feature. I'm pretty sure that VMWare asked me if I wanted Tools installed when I built the VM XP guest.

Yes, I tried it out when I had audio issues with VBox, and it works slick. Every bit as easy as VBox.
