comment Modem getting disconnected while using wifi using router
Ok, so to clarify, when you use the wifi on your mobile device (Phone/Tablet/Etc) from 8-10 meters, your modem becomes "disconnected" from your service provider? Are you sure? If someone uses the PC that works all the time and someone else uses the mobile 10m away and the "Disconnect" happens, does the PC lose internet as well?

comment Linux multi-tasking
There's a much simpler option that your answer neglects that is distro non-specific, which is the "screen" application, which will allow him to run tasks in the background even without daemonizing them, allowing him screen-access to them again if need be.

comment Is Wifi hotspot really different form repeater?
Marketing information isn't good information to go by on a technical QA site. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotspot_(Wi-Fi) gives a reasonable definition of "HotSpot" as being a wireless access network with a physical network link to the internet. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_repeater defines a repeater as exactly that. It accepts frames from wireless network, and then rebroadcasts them.

comment Can not control the second virtual machine
So when you switch to the second VM in Workstation, is it still functioning normally, with the exception of not grabbing key and mouse activity?

comment Can not control the second virtual machine
The first VM requires UAC to start because it's accessing a disk as a remote entity...but that still doesn't answer the question, does the file for the second VMs virtual image reside on the disk that the first VM is accessing? (OP posted this was not the case later)

comment Can not control the second virtual machine
I really don't understand the question. Are you using the VMware client? When you connect to the second VM are you still connected to the first? Does the first VM have a virtual drive as well as access to the physical drive? Is the second VMs virtual drive file stored on the physical drive the first VM is accessing?

comment Why can't I use custom dns server addresses in a network?
This answer is a good one, and the topic of DNS Interception is becoming increasingly important. There are several methods of doing this that are more complicated in practice, but this answer is solid because it is correct in terms of answering the question the OP asked in the context he asked it, and while there are other means, DNS filtering appears to be what's going on here, as interception would simply re-route the traffic.

comment SAN vs NAS: How to explain the difference in layman's term?
Look, I understand that the terms are more involved, but the reality is that a SAN is block level by consensus. You don't need a technical citation to answer the question "in layman's terms" so I find it beyond ironic that we're avoiding answering the question by giving absolutely incorrect information. If you walk into ANY DC and ask the most junior DC tech there what the difference between SAN and NAS is, he will tell you that SAN is block level, NAS is file level. So will any google search. It's sad to me that my answer is beneath one that is factually wrong. :-\

comment Issues with IP address when changing MAC address
As a comment, most enterprise level multi service WiFi devices will block devices that are mac-spoofing (Device goes from MAC A, IP A, to MAC B, IP A within a short period of time as a defense system. This could be what is causing your DHCP to fail. Why are you MAC spoofing in the first place?

Graham, do you mind editing my answer to add your information to further clarify? I didn't think to mention it myself, and I'm glad you could assist us with that.

This answer should be correct, unless you are somehow not fully permissioned to see the mount, or it has not actually mounted correctly. Are you running all actions ~as~ root, or through sudo?

Happy to help Paul, I can't count the number of times I've mis-configured Apache and been left scratching my head as to why pages didn't come up.
