comment Changed the PATH, now I'm getting “command not found” for everything
@Kevin I tried it and the spaces and globs were just copied. (Writing export PATH=/path to home/bin doesn't work, of course.)

Does PowerShell not allow you to do something along the lines of Get-AppxPackage -Name king.com.CandyCrushSaga | Remove-AppxPackage ?

I tried shrinking the partition within the VHD so that it was even smaller than the drive but I still couldn't restore it.

comment Why is the system partition C:\?
Breaking a mirror on Windows Server was also a problem; if you weren't careful the mirror drive would end up as drive C: and the boot drive would be assigned some other drive letter.

comment Why is the system partition C:\?
@Geruta My understanding is that if you perform a custom install from within a running OS then you will keep your existing drive letters, while if you boot from the installation media then since Windows Vista the system drive always becomes C: but Windows 2003 and earlier assigned letters according to existing partitions (not always in the expected order especially given removable drives).

comment Is there a way to fake a dual (second) monitor
I tried to do this in a VM, I got a little confused until I realised that I had to disable mouse integration otherwise Windows and VirtualBox couldn't agree as to which screen the mouse was on.

That's not the definition I'm used to. I did find this definition which matches my expectation: searchnetworking.techtarget.com/definition/asynchronous

comment Asynchronous Task Scheduler actions
While I can see at least one program there that you could want to run elevated, for the rest of the programs the usual startup locations would seem to suffice.

I think you meant to say that task actions are serialised.
