comment Dropbox-like client for FTP?
Unfortunately I am in a context where third-party services like Dropbox and Google Drive can NOT be used. 1) They can not be trusted for confidential documents 2) They are not reliable enough (better uptime/SLA is needed) 3) They becomes crazily expensive for large scale.

About the second paragraph: if not-FTP was an option, Git+Sparkleshare would probably be the best indeed. Unfortunately it is FTP and nothing else.

comment Dropbox-like client for FTP?
About the first paragraph: That is what my users are doing at the moment, actually. The problem is what I stated at line 2: When not connected to the Internet, they can't work.

comment How do I export the charts in a spreadsheet as PNGs?
@Xantec: That can be a worst case indeed. But of course it would not work well for huge charts, or if you need a good resolution, for instance for printing.

Problem: It is Windows only, like FTPbox.

comment LibreOffice conditional formatting based on string value: strange behavior
That works! Too bad one can not compare string values. Note: My data zone starts at B" so I just entered B2 instead of A1.

comment Thinkpad shuts down after 10 minutes of heavy use
Interesting! I am not doing games or anything demanding much graphical horsepower, though. I use Ubuntu's filesystem encryption but I am pretty sure that does not use the GPU.

comment Thinkpad shuts down after 10 minutes of heavy use
The fan is working, recently I have set it up to always run at maximum speed" with thinkfan. It is rather noisy and blows air. I have removed any dust on the sides, in the vents under the laptop, and inside by removing the keyboard and frame. I use air in a can, and spray it generously in the vents. But still sending the OS to reboot when the load is a bit high...

+1 This bug report contains great tips, and it allowed me to understand that my problem is worse: even after setting my fan to "always maximum speed" with thinkfan and underclocking to 800 MHz, it still crashes. New thing: it even crashes when the CPU temperature is still 70°C

+1 FTPbox probably fits the need, if the poster is not on Linux. If Linux is needed too, see question superuser.com/questions/416040
