comment Integrated VGA and DisplayPort to power dual monitors?
Couldn't find an entry for this in the BIOS but got a DP to DVI adaptor (about £7) and worked straight off :¬)

Something like that would be ideal but the only ones I can find for sale are the 3 port, full height ones, e.g. goo.gl/2bUKB

Ta. I'll give that a go after the weekend.

@Michael. The only half height ones I've been able to find have one port. The 'low profile' cards with 2 ports all seem to have a full height back plate.

comment Is there any benefit to plugging a USB 2.0 device into a USB 3.0 port?
Some USB 2 devices have problems when connected via a hub. Would be interesting to know if they have fewer problems if the hub is plugged into a USB 3 socket with its higher power rating.

P.S. I didn't try the 'fixmbr' method (which has worked for me in the past) as this was an external USB drive and was not being detected at all on the XP machine.

Thanks Robert. I left the initialization alone and tried 'Find and Mount' which let me mount the drive read only. Managed to copy the data over Ok (albeit very slowly ~ 24 hours to copy 40 Gb). I tried initialization when done and 'F&M' still let me mount the drive and copy.

comment Increasing download speed for torrents?
@Homer6. Actually, it's the reverse.. throttling back you upload speed in your torrent client will increase your download rate (up to a point). Setting the upload speed to 'unlimited' can choke the downloads as the the downloads require upstream bandwidth of their own.
