comment Excel 2010: The file is corrupt and cannot be opened. — Is there an error log?
Another option is to change the properties of the downloaded file. Once the file is downloaded, select properties and you should see in general tab: " The file came from another computer and might be blocked to protect this computer" and an "Unblock" button next to it. Once you choose unblock the file will open ok

thanks Kobinator, unfortunately I did not find the solution that would eliminate the need for work around. From the solutions that I use apart form the changing protected view settings is adding the site to the trusted site list in the browser so the file will not be flagged as unsafe and will open ok

comment Undo send email in Outlook
there is no such a thing as real "undo send" in gmail, what gmail does is delays sending for a few seconds (5 to 30 depending on your settings) so it gives you a chance to undo your action if you spot a mistake quickly enough. The email is not being send during that time.

comment Excel 2010: The file is corrupt and cannot be opened. — Is there an error log?
Just to clarify, I wanted to fix the file so it opens on any machine with Excel 2010 even when the Protected View is enabled as disabling it can be against the security policy of some of the users. As I mentioned I think I found a source of the problem. It is "data validation" and more precisely, the "Error Alert" part when that is set for a cell and the file is saved in "XML Spreadsheet 2003" format it does not open when emailed or downloaded, when it is in standard spreadsheet format it opens fine just in "Protected View"
