comment On my netbook, how can I disable the touch pad while I'm typing to avoid bumping it?
You can also cut out a piece of construction paper and place it over the touchpad. I did this on a computer that would not allow it to be disabled. The added benefit was that you could re-enable it easily just by removing the paper from the touchpad. So the touchpad stops crashing into the mountain resulting in such a travesty and allows it to abide nicely while you are typing.

comment Does using TrueCrypt makes “file shredding” tools obsolete?
@BMB you obviously underestimate the worth of a good cryptanalyst. In several cases a cryptographic algorithm and the way it was implemented provide opportunities to significantly simplify the problem. The effort to crack SHA was reduced from the theoretical brute force required from 2**80 operations down to 2**69 operations. collisions in SHA-0 was achieved in 2**39 operations and collisions in 58-round SHA-1 in 2**33 operations. This is a significant economy of effort. Boiling away the ocean is not required anymore. A 42U rack of 1U terra stations is capable of 156 Teraflops.

comment How can a computer with dynamic IP work as a webserver?
DNS does not support port forwarding. A DNS server performs the sole function of matching DNS records to IP addresses only. No port information is exchanged between the DNS server and the client regarding the appropriate port to connect to. That is more a function of the app making the connection. It intrinsically knows which port to use depending on which service it is connecting to. If your ISP is blocking port 80 on their egress filter, then you will need to use a port that is not blocked. Most people use 8080 for that, but really any open port will do the trick.

comment How can I monitor all and any internet traffic from my home PC?
I have to agree with John on this one. A packet sniffer is going to give you far too much information for it to be useful in spotting the problematic connections.

comment What is the best tool (and my chances of success) for recovering files from an Ext4 partition?
Try looking here - > sysresccd.org/System-tools This is a rescue CD that has some tools that will help recover ext4. Most of the other tools I would recommend do not work on Ext4 .

comment Internet explorer showing html as text instead of rendering the html
Ok, if that is not the problem, it is possible this issue might require an update to your javascript installation. Does the site require active-x to be enabled? Did it ever work? Did this just start happening all of the sudden or has this always been the behavior you see?

comment Using Skype Business version
I am not a programmer actually. The easiest way I to do this not being a programmer is to have the installation script also install a file after the MSI is complete. I will look tonight to see if I can find an example for you if you are still interested.

comment How to copy XP service log file during reboot or shutdown using command prompt?
Autoexec.bat still exists in windows, but it runs after the services are started up. I realized that would not do you any good.

I would have to say this is definitely a server admin kind of question. It appears this might just be a problem of presentation.

This is probably a better question asked on Server Fault.

comment What is a good utility to monitor for intrustion attempts while on public WiFi?
I think he wants something a bit more functional than just a firewall. If you remember the program Black Ice, that was a firewall which also had some nice intrusion attempt detection capabilities. I know the windows firewall logs all of this information, but I do not see it notifying you in cases where intrusion attempts are happening. I consider this a useful feature. If I thought someone was trying to hack my system the first thing I would do is turn the WiFi off and go somewhere else.

I have used solar winds in the past and it was pretty slick! Importing right into visio sounds like a real time saver.

Under most circumstances the 500 GB drive would be faster.

Doesn't a lower number of platters also correspond to a lower number of read/write heads connected to the voice coil?

I would add one more item to your post. df -k will show the file system and which mounted partition it maps to.
