comment Using a custom /etc/hosts, what IP address should I use to instantly time out? I'm running a web server on localhost
What problem are you trying to resolve that requires an IP address that times out instantly?

comment Does 64bit GNU/Linux have better performance?
So your results aren't really all that surprising. OP bought a machine with an AMD CPU and has concerns about performance? I agree, this is expected.

comment Does 64bit GNU/Linux have better performance?
Little caches perform better than big ones, and more 32-bit entries will fit in a fixed-size cache than 64-bit ones. What if the host system has 128 GB of RAM and the size of the fixed-size cache is 64 GB? How much faster will the 32-bit system be now?

comment How do I retrieve a product key from another hard drive?
Just use one of the many tools that can do this. See magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder And FWIW, My friend's laptop's motherboard fried and he needs his Windows 7 product key Most laptops have a COA sticker with the product key on it. See it here (upside down, and an actual product key...)

comment Is “MSG” (Net Send) unusable in Windows 7?
Is the Messenger service enabled? cezeo.com/tips-and-tricks/msg-command suggests that Security Limitations The user must have Message access permission for the session to be able to send the messages via msg command. So does the "sending" party have appropriate access to the "receiving" party?

comment mshtml.dll latest version for Internet Explorer 8, Windows XP Service Pack 3
I do not want to use Automatic Updates feature of Windows. Update manually... Alternatively, get the memory dump of the process and use WinDbg along with Microsoft's public symbols to get a better idea of where the crash is happening. This article is applicable, don't get hung up on it being about a BSoD.

comment Does PirateBrowser hide my IP address?
@FiascoLabs The point of Tor is anonymous communication. It was called "The Onion Router" because "Onion Routing" refers to the layers of the encryption used. The original data, including its destination, are encrypted and re-encrypted multiple times, and sent through a virtual circuit ... Each relay decrypts a "layer" of encryption to reveal only the next relay in the circuit in order to pass the remaining encrypted data on to it. The final relay decrypts the last layer of encryption and sends the original data, without revealing or even knowing its sender, to the destination.

It's not free, but consider treating this as an opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

Apparently magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder can "Load Hive" to inspect the registry of a dead Windows installation. So if you really had to, you could get it back.
