I mainly work as a .Net developer these days but I enjoy pretty much any code. And I really like playing with bits down at the hardware level :)

comment Network Speeds Don't Add Up
It's not really sneaky as all. It's just how we look at numbers. If you really want to be confused look how hard drive size is measured. When they write the number on the box the use the 1000 based values but when you look at the disk size in your file manager it's typically based on the 1024 based value.

comment Prompt if I really want to close visual studio?
At the same time... how many of us have been annoyed by the app that asked about 3+ times before you exit. "Click here to exit", "Are you sure you want to exit?", "Do you want to change your changes?"

Isn't that like asking someone if they can make and stove burner that won't hurt if it's on and you touch it.

comment Does a drive (or a drive with an adapter) exist to read 5.25 floppy disks on a modern motherboard?
That would be true if the track alignments are the same. But there were different numbers and alignments for different formats. You might even see some data on the disks but it would come out as complete crap. Think if an old tape or record that is played at the wrong speed. You could hear the music but it sure isn’t the song you meant to play.

are the FiOS boxes connected over fiber? If so why the heck don't they just use that connection for data.

comment How to batch rename files copied from OSX to Windows with ':' in filenames?
if the names are all fixed format you could do it with a batch file. But you best bet will be a tool like "John T" said.

comment Dilemma: What If Your Biometric Device fails and get replaced?
hopefully the reader doesn't fail. but both a password or pin + a finger reader is best. (multi-factor authenitcaion is always a good thing... other than when it's extra work)

comment Can Windows 7 place a task bar on each monitor, which only shows applications running on that screen?
This is one of those places where a third party can do the work. I don't care to know the processes on each monitor (becasue most of my processes are in the background as services)
