comment Scale desktop 4:3 to 16:9
Since this question has nothing to do with programming, it really doesn't belong here. The best answer I can give you is that the reaction of your monitor to a change in resolution is completely up to the monitor itself, and your description is how most (all?) of them work. Not much you can do about it.

comment How to run a file as executable with a different extension?
Do you have any examples? I just started Task Manager and I couldn't see anything but .exe files listed.

comment How do I escape windows repair install and start in normal boot?
Files don't just corrupt themselves. You should get a new HD and start over. You can move the old one and use it as a second drive if there is important information you want to pull from it.

comment Accessing an application running in VirtualBox through Windows?
You don't mention any programming in the question, and the answer isn't likely to involve programming either.

comment What is the maximum resolution that a Thunderbolt monitor can display?
There's no need for a video signal to include an alpha channel, so wouldn't it be 24 bits per pixel? That would make it 13.8 Mpixel.

comment How does Windows 7 generate thumbnails of files?
It's likely that Office embeds a thumbnail in the file as it creates it, and all Windows needs to do is extract it.

Remember that logging off is not the only way to leave a session, you can do a shutdown or simply lose power.

comment Is it better to turn off computer or power continuously to keep ancient 1990 harddrive alive (MSDOS 6.22 )
My very first hard drive was a Seagate 110MB. I never got rid of it, I wonder if it still works?

comment Best way to repackage ripped DVD to mpg
Thanks for the suggestion. The documentation states it works with the DVB format, but I'll take your word that it can do VOB also. What would make it a better choice than ffmpeg?

comment Best way to repackage ripped DVD to mpg
@Turix, the documentation isn't the greatest. It says it supports the following video formats: RM, RMVB, AVI, MPEG1(VCD), MPEG2(DVD), MP4. It has been a matter of trial and error to see what works. The player is this one: diamondmm.com/MP800.php

comment DVD Rip in 720p/1080p resolution
I think your video player will do a decent job of converting to the resolution of your display. I wouldn't try to upconvert it, just keep the full uncompromised rip of the DVD.
