comment Copy a DVD in Windows 7
@jcollum DVDShrink works on Windows 7 according to this (though you may need to add the application to the list of DEP programs to exclude; see half-way down the list of messages).

I did eventually install Windows 7 on that box. It's been working fine.

Sounds like a terminal setting. You should probably ask this on askubuntu.com.

comment Why does my DVD+R show more usage than I burned?
If there are a bunch of small files, sector size might be the reason. DVDs use 2048 byte sectors and most OSs use something smaller (512 bytes for NTFS, for example), so a file that runs into a sector (but is less than 512 bytes) would take 2k on the CD and only 0.5k on your hard drive.

comment Malware choking and redirecting Internet Explorer, found but unable to delete virus
@Fosco But it is often a quicker way. How long should one spend trying to eradicate a problem versus backing up and starting from scratch? From a cost-benefit standpoint if it's going to take you longer to try to remove the virus than to backup and refresh, then don't try removing the virus; it's a waste of time.

If it's really 15GB, you won't be able to burn it to a DVD either (Blu Ray? Probably; I don't have one so I'm not positive). I have a feeling it's a bit smaller than that, though.

And, don't cake it on, either. Too much paste is as bad too little since that can create small pockets of air between the CPU and heat sink.

Sure it does. It does not come with the DeCSS module (if I remember correctly) since the authors are being cautious due to DMCA in the U.S., but once that's added back in, it copies them fine. And non-encrypted DVDs can be copied without that module.
