comment “windows is searching for a solution” popup box
While I agree sending the data would be helpful there is nothing more frustrating that watching that dialog spin endlessly only to (in my experience never find a solution) - worst case scenario I'd like an option to auto-re-start the application while it wastes time looking for a solution.

comment Browser dialogs (Alert, Confirm, & Prompt) not longer working in Internet Explorer & Firefox on a specific Windows install
@techie007 correct, this is something in "Windows" that is broken/turned off as it affects Firefox to. I'd almost assume that any call the the standard MsgBox() feature in the windows API would also fail (though I haven't tested this).

comment Will all Windows 7 applications run on Windows 8?
It should be noted that for a Windows 8 "RT" tablet none of your existing apps will work because of the new architecture (without being re-compiled) AND there is a limit to the number of concurrent apps you can run at once.

comment Make Internet Explorer 7 always get the latest version of a page?
Although this setting will solve issues for you as you develop your site, BE SURE to set your HTTP Headers correctly on your final production web server... as most users should have the "Automatic" setting selected in IE to allow proper caching as web servers direct.

comment How to track down the source of strange funny noise in Windows XP?
Do you have a windows "find" window open? I recall getting disrupted by the sound of the dog scratching every now and then when I was ignoring the window... similarly it took a while to figure out - I mention because I believe you can change the character... and well, you might have a frog! ;-) hehe Just read your link!

It would be helpful... but alas its many networks and I don't always have such options/permissions.

comment Fastest method to determine my PC's IP address (Windows)
I accepted this as the "correct" answer, however it looks like there are several ways to solve this (including the solution I came up with below superuser.com/a/382669/2422 )

Wow! 2 minds think alike! I too figured that an AutoHotKey command would be an easy way to run this... (I'm going to post my code as well)

comment Fastest method to determine my PC's IP address (Windows)
Thanks... I've actually used this many times... and it works great to get my external IP address. However I guess I didn't fully clarify myself... as I actually want the 192.168.xxx.yyy address so that within my LAN/WLAN I can connect from one device to another.

comment How can I install IE7 or IE8 on a new PC that came with Windows 7 and IE9 installed?
I don't want to open another duplicate question however I too would like to know if there is a solution for downgrading to IE8 on a new PC that came installed with IE9 by default.

comment Any option to change Windows XP default Copy Here naming from “Copy of {name}.{ext}” to “{name}.{ext}.copy”
Actually, I did manage to edit the registry and add this option to the context menu... but I think it tries to create the copy/search in the directory where my *.cmd file is, not the directory of the selected file. I used the registry settings (adjusted) from here: superuser.com/questions/65105/… to add the context item.

Thanks @AEN - just wondering how you "install" this to be its own context menu item vs. a child of the send to menu?

can you clarify why you only recommend IE to run this? I've never had issues using Firefox or Chrome.

comment Finding the culprit of a slow network
I'd also look at any anti-virus/anti-spyware tools on your computer. Depending on the app and settings, they can bring a machine to its knees. If you have a safe network to connect to, consider turning them off for 5-10 minutes while you test connections.

Did either option work? If so which one? I'm experiencing similar issues with the device claiming a full strength encrypted connection but not pulling down any DHCP settings properly.

comment Different cookie storages in one browser
IIRC cookies are stored per domain, thus if you have example.com open in 2 tabs, they will share cookies. Can I ask why you want to have different cookies in each tab? Are you trying to login to the same application in multiple tabs as different users?

comment Looking for help getting Samba server up and running off a Knoppix live CD to rescue files off a WinXP box
Wow, thanks for the very full reply. Taking the hard disk out is an option I was just avoiding that it I could copy via the network instead. I'll give Ubuntu a go first if only for the learning experience ;-) otherwise I'll go brute force and pull the disk out.

@Joey - true, but @rima had 2 problems... one was directories, the other was the semi-colon. Glad you had a solution for that though ;-)

Unfortunately this didn't help me out... after "undoing", and before/after a clean boot I still had the restricted zone list.
