I connected the drive to a USB/SATA adaptor, turned it on, plugged it and then entered the FileVault password when prompted. No proprietary stuff beyond Apple's here.

@Jason because this is for computers that are used as workstations (to turn into dashboards when they are not being used) and for the ones that are dedicated dashboards, I want them locked.
