comment How to tell software which output to use?
AFAIK, the Windows API does support this, but the application must be using the updated APIs.

comment 100% of RAM is used when the Task Manager shows a cumulative usage of - what should be - less than 12%
5GB into the Non-Paged Pool?? I'd take a look into that. Do you have a page file? What kind of hardware do you have?

comment “Memory IS RAM!” - How true is this?
From a programer's and CPU standpoint, this makes sense. You don't directly interact with anything else except memory. Files on disk are copied into memory. Network traffic is accessed thought memory.

comment SvcHost taking up about 300MB
I don't think this is out of the ordinary. I have a svchost.exe in Windows 7 that is about the same size and it runs just fine. Is there a problem that we are trying to solve? Cause you can just turn off all those services. . .

comment Is there any 'sudo' command for Windows?
I believe the term you are looking for is "elevated" access. Even though your credentials have admin permission, processes under your credentials don't have admin permissions until you "sudo" the command. In Windows, they call it "elevate".

comment Is there any 'sudo' command for Windows?
Unfortunately, this is seriously outdated. Runas merely runs commands under a different set of credentials. Even though your credentials have admin permissions, it doesn't mean all processes under your credentials run as admin.

comment Why is the Windows 8 recycle bin using more space than it is allocated?
@pabouk: . . .to 10000 MB for the main user of this computer, and disabled the recycle bin for the other user, and refreshed the folder in WinDirStat, but it still takes 26 GB of space. I see no "delete" here.

comment In Windows 7, is it possible to do “runas” administrator *without* using the GUI?
This isn't a dupe. The OP is asking for how to spawn a process as an admin. The Win32 term is "elevate". Runas simply spawns a process as a different user. Just like Linux, not all processes have "admin" permissions even though your user credentials have admin permissions.

comment Can I allow standard users to install software when Parental Control is enabled?
Step. 1) Create an install program that fires up a command prompt, which will have the same permissions as the installer. Step 2) ... Step 3) Profit.

This will be an interesting answer. This is a new feature and Google will have limited info.

I think "real time" is a better word than "bare-metal"

comment How to remove obsolete users from ACLs and other unneeded data from an NTFS drive?
I wouldn't worry about performance. It's a B tree and it's unlikely to improve performance.

I second Doktoro's comment. Even better would be use post the results of Sysinternal's Rammap.

comment Windows 7 Home Premium transparently cache Synology NAS
I'd be curious if there are any solutions already out there. If there are, they would take a pretty darn good programmer. The way Windows currently does this with another Windows box is do "change notifications" by looking at the USN journal on the NAS side.

comment What info can I get about mail server from email address?
All you can assume is what's in the DNS record. You really have no idea what "server" that DNS record will redirect you to.

comment After using external HDD in Windows 7, it stopped to be readable in Windows XP
Odd, why is there a page file on that external harddrive?
