Another thing to note are SD cards were originally intended for cameras, who's performance value total bandwidth. Today's OSes value random read access times, which most, if not all, are not designed for.

I don't think you get it. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Windows can write to free memory and write to the pagefile. It isn't like writing to the page file or writing to memory.
