That link is very interesting, thanks. However, it seems to be geared towards people building "CustoMacs" or "Hackintoshes". I read somewhere that a possible reason standard cards wouldn't work in a Mac is that they require different boot systems. Is this true? Would these cards work in an actual Mac Pro as well as a Hackintosh running OS X?

The RAM I'm considering is DDR2-800, the same speed as the modules I already have installed. And as far as I'm aware, the Mac Pro I have (early 2008, quad core Xeon) has 2 memory riser cards with 4 slots each.

In case you didn't already know, you can buy RAM from Crucial at much lower prices than what Apple charge. However, this only applies if you're comfortable with replacing the ram yourself. crucial.com
