comment Why won't my SSD boot when it's cold?
Not thinking of melting solder, just expanding it a little to reach over a microscopic crack in a joint and close a connection.

Are you replying to me? My suggestion stands.

Can you safely open the device? $10 says there's a temperature-intermittent connection/solder joint.

comment How to find out the total number of virtual core your CPU has
@Computernerd, hold down the Windows key, and press the Break key. If you have one, not all keyboards do. It'll be at upper right, and may also have a "Pause" label.

comment If 32-bit machines can only handle numbers up to 2^32, why can I write 1000000000000 (trillion) without my machine crashing?
You can do that in this reality. Try doing that in the Star Trek universe. Just stand back before, because of all the sparks and smoke.

comment Windows 8- sleep mode is drive ON?
Best I can find, @Primosz: telegraph.co.uk/technology/advice/9364766/…. And again - I've personally verified this, basically every day, on every PC and on every version of Windows I've used for the past ten years.

Source: the Windows 8 machine I'm sitting in front of right now. And the fact that this is what Windows has done in every version that has supported sleep and hibernation. But let me see what I can find.

@Primosz: "spins down" means "turns off" (no longer spinning).

Joao, no, it does not.

That is incorrect. Windows 8, while in S3 (sleep), spins down the hard drive. The difference between sleep and hibernate, essentially, is that hibernation removes power to RAM, and so resume will have to read saved state from the hard drive.
