comment Is HDMI hot pluggable?
For some unknown reasons my AmazonBasics HDMI cable comes with a "Warning Card" that says "Please switch off all hardware devices [...] prior to connecting or disconnecting the enclosed cable"

comment Windows cant repair even with sfc /scannow
@Pacerier: Yes I'm sure. I tested on Windows 8.1 64-bit; what about you? It is possible that we've hit a bug in dism/sfc, or perhaps dism is only able to fix certain kinds of integrity violations itself.

comment Should we expect DDR3L RAM to work on the Intel first-gen Core i3 platform?
Voltage control is possible on non-overclockable CPUs too. I've undervolted my Haswell-based Xeon E3 so that it won't exceed its TDP and throttle during extreme AVX/FMA workload. But you're right, laptops capable of voltage control are super rare.

I wish my laptop BIOS had provided voltage controls so that I could fix it myself.

Thanks! I find that running a memory intensive workload on Linux (7-zip benchmark with a large dictionary) can cause the system to reboot too, consistent with the idea that this is an undervolt instability.
