comment “Cannot allocate memory” while no process seems to be using up memory
@user1179459 Try temporarily adding a swap file, then start debugging what's eating up your memory once you've got a stable system. You can get rid of it once you've fixed the root cause.

comment Email utopia: cross-platform (inc mobile), encryption, signing, threading, account aggregation. Is it possible? If so, how?
You want the email database distributed somehow. You could have each of your PCs get all the emails (eg: offlineimap), and have mutt read emails from there. That helps keep distributed copies, use mutt, and keep everything is sync. Some sample dotfiles on how to do this are here if you're interested: github.com/hobarrera/…

comment Can XMPP/Jabber support editing of messages and offline message like in Skype?
@Vi Note that the recipient will have received the uncorrected message anywy. It's up to the remote client to show it edited or not. This is unlike skype, where the user is not in control and the client may choose to hide information.

comment How do I stop urxvt adding a '+' when the line wraps
I'm glad you haven't been suffering from this for four years. I left this answer in great part for posterity's sake, since this result comes up pretty easily.

comment Is an RDNSS or DHCPv6 server allowed to distribute a link-local IP address as DNS server?
While I can't think of any valid reason to do so, it's not mentioned/forbidden anywhere. Is this just curiosity, or why would you want to do this?

comment How to speed up rsync?
Minor note: -z is only useful for low speed network traffic. If your network is fast enough, it'll slow things down, since you'll be limited by CPU.

The default seems to be "compression=no" anyway.

No encryption sounds like no SSH really. Have you considered using another protocol altogether?

I'm really impressed. I went from 4.2MB/s up to 9.2MB/s. Still 100% CPU though.
