comment Computer goes super-sluggish but Task Manager shows no CPU usage
As in a fault, or just "it's slow" - can you provide an answer with some idea how to diagnose it?

I know CPU isn't the only resource, that's the question :) None of my applications are explicitly using the disk i.e. I'm not telling them to and the apps I am testing are not disk-heavy at all. I wondered if this is symptomatic of cache thrashing, too little RAM?

comment 7zip - self-extracting executables require admin privileges and trigger compatibility warning
IExpress is a great free (and semi-secret) feature in Windows but sadly doesn't support directories only a flat file structure.

Disabling the warning doesn't help, the end users cannot be expected to modify their computer setup. I've never seen this when receiving self-extracting archives, is it a bug in 7zip? Also - any idea why it needs admin rights? The folder in question isn't a protected one like Program Files.

What is spammy about it?

comment Why is Skype memory usage so high?
As a software developer, that's not true. Even though it's not a lot in relative terms, it is a lot for a program that's not doing anything. When I look in Task Manager, Skype is the 4th biggest in memory usage - using 3X more than DropBox or explorer.exe.

comment Easiest way for non-technical beta testers to gather system information of their PC?
Sadly the Sys-Prop window doesn't include graphics info, which is actually the single most important thing I'm looking for. Of installed tools, dxdiag is the most ideal - I'd love to be able to send people to a web-URL but I guess that isn't possible without plugins?

but that requires them to download/install it, when it may be wasting their time!
