@LPChip if you've got experience using this would you consider writing up a full answer?

I came across PsExec (technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx) but I cannot tell if this will let me run a process on an already logged in PC...

Having to run something on the target machine the whole time, listening, isn't really ideal. Is that just the way things have to work, though?

comment How to login to a Mac to access files from a PC?
I'll try that - the Mac should be set up for this I just don't know the exact format to use. It's many Gb of data so throwing it through the cloud isn't sensible and I don't have a USB stick large enough, though this is my back-up option :)

How would that help the PC access files on the Mac? If you meant it to the Mac can't see PC issue, that started working again... but I'd like to be able to do things either way round!

comment How can you access a remote disk/volume from the terminal in OSX?
Oh interesting, so the host has to allow it first? The problem I had was I couldn't display /usr in that dialog as it's hidden!

What if I want to access a whole volume, e.g I need to access/usr on a remote Mac - or will this method let me mount anything I want since I am using admin user?
