comment How to keep Linux running after hard drive removal?
@jhnlmn (and closers) - is this question because you're writing an app for the embedded system and trying to control the system? I ask because this question does seem on-topic to me. Unfortunately, I think your best solution is hardware or maybe a kernel patch.

comment INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE after installing Linux on same drive
Sorry for not responding; I haven't had much time over the past few months (or next few, for that matter) to investigate the problem. Will let you know if that changes.

comment INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE after installing Linux on same drive
@bryan - yes, however the Linux install rewrites the partition table. I did the same thing when converting my laptop (WinXP) to dual-boot on a larger drive, and didn't have any problems.

comment What sizes should you allocate to the /, /boot, /home and swap
I disagree here, primarily because USB sticks are so large. I do a clean install every other year (LTS version), and create tarball of my home directory and several directories from /usr/local. It's fast, lets me reload specific parts of my home directory, and means that I don't have to choose a fixed size for / or /home

comment How do I make Bash my default shell on Ubuntu?
+1 - not sure why the OP decided that editing the password file was a better choice, but this is the best answer

comment How do I push a file from a Linux box to a Windows Box?
+1 - assuming you're on a local network, this is a reasonable approach; not so much if you're looking for a remote transfer
