I know you've run stress, but this still smell like bad RAM to me. Can you give memtest86+ or the like a shot?

comment Permissions Error Time Capsule (can't rsync owned by root:wheel group)
See also: discussions.apple.com/thread/4635115 -- rsync causes my Time Capsule to stop responding until rebooted. The data share becomes inaccessible to all clients (OS X, Windows, Linux) on the network until the reboot. You should monitor an rsync session to determine if/when the TC goes off the rails. It's possible your Mac is not dismounting during the freeze and just creates a second mount after the TC is online again.

@rlbisbe Read the User's Guide again, it specifically states "2-GB 800-MHz memory modules are not supported."

Page 15 of the Optiplex 745 User's guide indicates max memory config of 8GB, at 533/667 MHz, or 4GB at 800 MHz, using 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB non-ECC sticks only -- 2-GB 800-MHz memory modules are not supported. Also, Windows 7 Pro 32bit has a limit of 4GB physical RAM.

I would urge them to contact Lenovo support. If the notebook is not under warranty, I would wipe and reimage/reinstall.

It would also really help to include information about the OS, applications, etc... anything relevant, else answers would just be guesses.

@Frands In fairness, not everything on SF has to be server related. As a sysadmin, some of us manage many, many desktops notebooks and mobile devices.

So build an AD server, and join the CentOS box as a member server. If you need AD, you need AD, not a beta-re-implementation on an unsupported OS>
