comment 65Mbps with 40MHz 2.4 GHz WiFi N
+1 - many enterprise wireless systems now default to leaving 40mhz channel bonding disabled on 2.4ghz as it's nearly impossible to achieve this without overlap unless you own the building(s)..

comment What would be the disadvantages of using a 4 stranded ethernet cable?
@Bob Not including the full 4 pairs is violating the Cat5e standard. It's not exactly common to see this.

Cat5e cable must have 8 strands of copper. The person who terminated this cable was obviously on drugs.

comment Why URE fails raid rebuild and “renders RAID 5 unusable”
A single 40TB array is asking for trouble. Lesson learned I guess.

comment Display Scaling in Windows Remote Desktop Connection
I don't know how you can specify this manually - there probably is a hidden setting that you can put in the .RDP file (it's a text file). Shopping questions are off-topic here (asking for alternative software), but I'll mention RoylaTS as we use it at work - it supports scaling.

comment Cisco ASA 5520 as a home router
@Pat still - it makes no sense at using it in your home. An enterprise firewall does not have any knowledge of UPnP (thank god for that), whilst a home firewall should be great with UPnP so you can facetime while you facetube and so on.. Trut me, an ASA in your home is not worth it unless you are going to run a server LAB there.

comment Cisco ASA 5520 as a home router
I have to ask - You want to use a enterprise firewall that can easily net you at least $2k on ebay as a firewall in your home? Why not just sell it and buy new stuff that works great with the services you listed (like an airport extreme), and have $1700 left for beer?

comment Att dsl modem changing my router's dns?
I did a major rewrite here to make it a bit better - A hint for the OP: The TCP/IP protocol does not allow you to have different DNS servers for a specific interface (unless you use some weird nat/masq rules)

The hub? Are you talking about the patch panel?

comment Pulling Cable In Existing Home — Advice?
Correct - two separate cables with 5 pair of copper in each. Installation cables are usually in pairs now anyways.

Just don't be cheap, run dual cat6 ports to each room. You'll love it the day you're using IPTV and want a access point or HTPC hooked up at the same time..

comment In Putty, what do the colors on files and folders represent?
The question is not about disabling colors, it's figuring out what each color represents. Also - this question is one year old, and answered a long time ago..
