comment Can't use port 8080 - what is running on it? (OS X Mavericks)
sudo lsof -i:8080 shows nothing at all. The netstat -an | grep LISTEN command shows some things but nothing showing use of 8080.

No, after a reboot of my machine (ie, Tomcat isn't involved at all -- I'm only using Tomcat inside my IDE), telnet is still able to connect to something on port 8080.

Still doesn't show anything for port 8080.

I already looked at the likes of : stackoverflow.com/questions/5310945/… -- nothing I've found helps resolve the issue.

Yes, I know I can use a different port--that's not the question I'm asking.

comment rsync hangs with message "name lookup failed for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: No address associated with hostname
Really, really old question. I marked this as the correct answer not because I verified it, but because it sounds like you know what you're talking about, and it sounds like you're probably right. Cheers.

comment Obtain Windows 8.1 Update 1 installation media - I have Windows 8 Keys
It works if you want to download Windows 8.1 PRO using a Windows 8 PRO (non-OEM) key, or if you want to download 8.1 non-pro using a 8 non-pro, non-OEM key. Not 100% sure, but it doesn't seem to include Update 1. Doesn't work at all for my OEM key. Generic keys can't be used for purposes of downloading the installation media.

That looks like the ticket. I'll report back after I've had a chance to try it out.

comment Vim 7.4 puts current line at top of window split when moving cursor between buffers
The winminheight setting, when set to 0, is the culprit. I turned off all plugins (except the ones that come bundled with vim 7.4) and it's still an issue. When set to 0, it always happens in vim 7.4, and it never happened in vim 7.2 :(

That trick no longer works, as evidence by commenters (on other sites not referenced here) reporting as such. In addition, I tried it myself before I asked this question. Also, it doesn't include Update 1.

Hm. I just found out about starting vim with -u NONE and doing that stopped the annoying behavior. How do I find out what plugin is causing the problems? I'll have to do some searching...

I'm not asking about keys. I don't have a problem installing using a generic key and fixing it later. I'm asking where/how I can obtain installation media. I included key information because it would be nice to have only one set of install media that worked with both keys. You have hundreds of answers, please point me to the relevant ones. Thanks.

comment scp files via intermediate host
I know this doesn't answer the question, but for those who don't know about rsync, or don't know how to use it to hop through a host, this could be a useful tip: use the '-e' option with rsync like this: A$ rsync <options> -e 'ssh B ssh' source C:destination

comment Is there any shortcut to iterate through Excel's worksheet tabs?
They are interchangeable. (Both work.) Tested on OS X 10.9.2 "Mavericks" with Excel 2011 v 14.3.9

No, I had a different php version before (5.1).

I personally think that while PHP may have a bug here, less also has a bug. Usually (i.e. with CentOS 5) when I have a long-running program, less can still be used normally while php continues to produce output.

I had already figured the ... > tmpfile && cat tmpfile | less workaround on my own... it is a very annoying workaround, but does work. The < /dev/null workaround is better but is still only a workaround, but I gave you the bounty for effort. :)

None of these suggestions worked. I do not have control over the CentOS version.

It is working correctly on my CentOS 5.5 install.
