I work for a small bioinformatics company and I build websites and applications. I'm currently focused on Python and Django. I love to make my sites/apps responsive, and I'm very interested in software usability.

I did, in both cases, run them as administrator...

Tried CurrPorts as well. Both apps don't seem to disconnect. They both have options to disconnect from the port, but when this option is selected, nothing seems to happen and the program, upon refresh, is still running and attached to the same port.

Good thought - I downloaded and tried this method with TCPView and it seemed to not allow this disconnection. Trying the other one now.

comment How do you check how much power a USB port can deliver?
This is a great trick. Unfortunately, for a PCI-e add-on USB 3.0 hub, the dialog doesn't show the power option.

+1 for giving me a good benchmark tool. But it should be noted that mbps is not the same same MB/s...

I came upon inner glow as a possibility. It's not quite getting me all the way but it may be a work around.

I agree, when people downvote and don't give a reason, I think it should be invalidated...

Thanks for the comments. Already looked through the logs; nothing valuable.

The machine is not too old. In fact, the motherboard, RAM and CPU are about 1.25 years old. I'm not saying it's not the motherboard, but that would be a shame. I have a few good ideas from this post, however, so I should be able to get somewhere. Thanks.

I double checked anyway, and these display/sleep/screen saver settings are the same ones I've had for quite some time...

comment Using USB 3.0 Flash Drive or Solid State Hard Drive with USB 3.0 or SATA as WebServer
@Journeyman Geek - the point here is to gain speed and retain portability. Obviously I can get more speed mounting internally, but then I wouldn't have portability.

I tried this but it didn't work. I think it was a bug so the reinstall worked... Thanks anyway, though.

Does this uninstall it or just turn it off? What if there is a sever misconfiguration that needs to be fixed - will turning it off and then back on actually do anything?

comment Toshiba Satellite P755D USB 3.0 Drivers Missing - Windows 7 Professional
You got it! That worked... I previously installed a chip-set driver package from the Toshiba support site that I thought had these drivers but it didn't. I guess I should have gone to the AMD site. Anyway, thanks a bunch for your help. Enjoy the +50.

Yes it does, and I tried the drivers for the chip-set according to Toshiba. I will try your recommendation and see what's up as well. Thanks.
