comment One SD card transfers file to PC faster than another one
Thanks for introducing me to SD card speed classes (: Apparently the class is only for write speed, though I don't know if that explains what you're seeing. Could you try formatting the cards and retrying the speed test to eliminate fragmentation as a possibility (though I suspect fragmentation would only affect write speeds)?

comment Why does dialup require exclusive use of the phone line?
One point I think worth mentioning is that telephone modems were designed for exploiting a low bandwidth voice line (signals got filtered at the end office). If you tried to share that limited bandwidth between your voice and data, it'd be a tight squeeze! DSL requires an unfiltered line, which has a much higher bandwidth (~1MHz instead of 3100Hz according to the book I'm lookin at).

comment Automatically distributing applications' CPU usage between cores (Windows 8)
Windows does automatically distribute processes across different cores. AFAIK there's no need to play with affinity in normal usage, and playing with priority seems silly if you have plenty of spare cycles.

comment Route spotify traffic via direct inet, all other via VPN
Hi, thanks for your time, but I'm not sure you're answering the question. I was interested in splitting up the traffic between the VPN and the local gateway, with only Spotify traffic going locally.

comment Will mirroring with an SSD improve read performance?
@mjaggard My argument isn't affected by whether it's h/ware of s/ware RAID: wherever you see controller in my answer, I'm referring to whatever is handling the RAID. The principle of having a weak link in a RAID array is what I'm getting at.
