How to run an application from Windows XP in Windows 8? Saying "No, you can't run the application installed on the XP in Windows 8 or application installed on Windows 8 in Windows XP." is just plain wrong. The answer is that it depends on the program. Unless a program requires an explicit parameter for an external library, a license key, or something like this, most programs will be able to rebuild their own configuration from scratch. And even without it, copying the content of the %appdata% folder from XP to Win8 will be enough for most programs to find back all their settings (browsers, for example). Some won't work. It really depends. |

How to run an application from Windows XP in Windows 8? Not to mention programs which are storing their configuration data in their own install folder. Those ones are obviously not getting any problem. |

How to run an application from Windows XP in Windows 8? There are a lot of programs which don't need registry keys, or configuration data. You can run them without a problem. Some others just rebuild their configuration as needed. Finally, some store their configuration in their own folder. All these cases work for such situation. |

How to run an application from Windows XP in Windows 8? Exactly. It's becoming even more rare nowadays, as applications tend to use less and less the registry, and more the user profiles for their configuration storage. And either way, a lot of programs are perfectly able to rebuild their configuration registry or data from nothing, without reinstalling. |

Uninstalling hard deleted application from Windows7 @Ramhound - yes, it's not really the recommended way to do, and only a second option in my answer. The appropriate way is of course to use the normal uninstaller (even if that's not a guarantee to clean everything) |
