comment Setup PPTP VPN server on linux
Keep in mind that PPTP is a totally broken and insecure Protocol that should not be used at all anymore. If you want to create a secure VPN instead of a vulnerability use L2TP, IPSec or OpenVPN with a proper configuration.

comment SSHD Consuming 100% of CPU (Hundreds of processes) - Will not die
Try moving them from the default port 22/TCP to some arbitrary high port to get rid of most automated script scanners. This is NOT a security measure, it just keeps your logs sane. Just for good measure triple check your security and think about deploying fail2ban.

comment Icon^M file on Mac OS X
Google Drive is not creating this file. Google Drive is incorrectly stripping the hidden-bit from an existing file causing it to become visible.

comment How can I disable Mac OS X's Option+click hiding behaviour?
You may be able to pass the option-click to a background window by also pressing command. If that actually works with your windowing-tool depends on how cleanly that is implemented.

comment Disable magic mouse back-forward gesture only in XCODE
You cannot configure application specific gestures in OS X itself. You could though try the free BetterTouchTool to add browser specific gestures for back/forward and disable the global system gesture. bettertouchtool.net

comment Mac mini - keyboard stops responding when switching spaces
The bug is still open with Apple and I'm afraid they won't fix it for 10.6 anymore. What sometimes helps is to keep the modifier keys used for the Spaces-Switching-Shortcut pressed for a second or two, then release them and the overlay panel should go away.

comment Do not wakeup Mac on mouse movements
Apples Bluetooth Mighty Mouse will go into hibernation if it looses connection to the computer and will only wake a computer if you press the button, not on movement alone. Switching it off completely will prevent that as well obviously. Other manufacturers may differ.

comment How can I make Tor and Polipo run (and automatically restart) using launchd on Mac OS X?
The abandoned Lingon 2.1.1 still works fine under 10.6 SnowLeopard. There also is an updated version 2.2.1 for SnowLeopard available for 3.99€ in the Mac AppStore. itunes.apple.com/at/app/lingon/id411211026?mt=12

Sorry, the current incarnation of Mail.app definitely does not support what you want to do.

comment Where can I find performance benchmarks of ALIX.1D system (AMD Geode LX800)
ALIX boards don't have any hardware accelleration for MPEG en-/decoding, so everything has be calculated by the CPU. If you can give me an exact example of what you need to do I can test that for you. You'd need to provide a source movie, settings, which packages to apt-get etc. I'm not that familiar with Debian, but If you can give me what you need tested so I can do it with as little effort as possible, I'll be happy to test for you.

comment Where can I find performance benchmarks of ALIX.1D system (AMD Geode LX800)
Which exact part do you need benchmark info for? (Regardless of synthetic benchmarks beeing of mostly esoteric "value".) Which OS are you intending to run, this may heavily impact performance, especially in the crypto and networking area. I'm running multiple ALIX 3D3, 3D13, 3D2, 3D3 boards as routers, tor anonymizer nodes. What is your intended goal to do with this system? Maybe I can then give you a hint if it may be suitable or not.

comment Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts for terminal
Sidenote: Using alt as meta key makes many needed characters like @[]|{} unaccessible on many international keyboard layouts like german or austrian. You can jump forward or backwards a word by pressing ESC-f and ESC-b respectively. For single characters you can use the arrow keys in most cases. In Terminal.app: Preferences > Settings [Advanced] you can tick a box to "Delete sends Ctrl-H" to have your delete key behave correctly in apps like vim.

comment A gigabit network interface is CPU-limited to 25MB/s. How can I maximize the throughput?
Jumbo frames definitely require both ends (aka computer and switch) to support this. I doubt you can increase the throughput on this hardware. I guess you would need to swap the ethernet phy for a better one (e.g. with hardare checksumming) which is unlikely to be possible on this hardware. (Likely to be an onboard soldered ethernet chip rather than a pci module.)

comment Migrating from DD-WRT to Tomato
TFTP Uploading a Firmware works just as well on Mac OS X and Linux. There are plenty of how-tos to google. From my experience it was always easy to just reflash a WRT54GL from DD-WRT to Tomato-WRT. Since both store their settings in NVRAM routers usually even keep their settings. Be sure to flash over an ethernet cable and not over WiFi if easily possible, makes flashing more reliable.
