Robert started life as a comparatively fast sperm. At age 13, no longer a sperm, he got his first computer and broke it. He has spent much of his adult life devoted to helping others not to break computers; first as an IT Pro and now as a senior software developer.

His work in helping others has earned him numerous Microsoft ALM MVP awards in the past and many opportunities to speak at major software developer events.

He is most proud of his son. His website is www.sadev.co.za and can also be found on Twitter.

comment How to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 offline?
Issue with this to be aware of that MSDN/technet is not meant for production. MSDN is for development & TechNet is for testing. So if you have a retail key, it isn't the supported methods for this.

yeah the portable one still seems clean. Maybe you should change the link to that one?

Avoid Crystal now - it was great but the latest version (5.6.2) contains a lot of malware :(

comment Which of shutdown / hibernate / sleep causes the least wear to an SSD drive?
Only on desktops, on a laptop hybrid sleep is off at the laptop companies request. Why would they want that? To protect the hard drive: blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2011/05/10/10162728.aspx Albeit this should be less of an issue with a SSD, it does mean that the user needs to turn it on themselves (see same link above)

You risk breaking apps with that that rely on that font - do not recommend you do this.

comment Recommendations for document generation tool
I am happy with almost any common format - PDF, word, text even. Once in a common format I can convert if needed. Will take your advice and put that in the question though, thanks.

Nice idea, but I specifically am aiming at a no (or very little) code solution which is why I hoping for a tool that already exists.

comment Dealing with Word spell check in technical documents?
+1 for the styles - but it does not provide a technical dictionary which is what I am looking for.

comment JPEG vs PNG vs BMP vs GIF
@Teddy - you were absolutely right. I misread when I copied it, it said xkcd style, not from xkcd. I have fixed the text and link.

comment WiFi vs. Wireless
@Ivo, how about superuser.com having two different tags - one for wifi, one for wireless? Actually the issue comes in that Wifi in South Africa seems to mean a WAN while wireless is for LAN's - yet listening to american podcasts they seem to use it the other way around (as @brfast indicated)
