comment What does 'source' do?
You are mixing up ./command and . script. source-command is same as .-command. Using ./meh says run script/binary named meh in the current directory, and got nothing to do with source/. -command. As explained in answer in your link.

comment how can change default text editor in mingw32
not by default (probably), but you can create one.. if so it should be wherever your HOME directory is. But I suggest you change PATH in Windows Environment variables instead.

comment why is 1 inch in computer screen shorter than 1 inch in real?
you do assume that it is 22" exactly between two oposite pixels on the screen, this is probably not true. Also the diagonal dpi is a rather odd thing to even messure, there are not 1981 pixels in an exact diagonal row on the screen.

comment What is Gnome / KDE etc?
"multiple windows managers can be running at the same time" that's incorrect. There can only be one windowmanager running per X server (screen). Your mixing up desktop environments with window manager. As already said, KDE & Gnome are not windowmanagers but desktop environments. Application using different DE frameworks can run in parallel, even if using a window manager not part of a DE (both GNOME and KDE got there own default window manager). A window manager is just a special application that handles all other applications windows

comment Commands see files, bash doesn't
As current dir (or your HOME dir in this case) is not in PATH , vm TAB TAB will not expand it. ./vm TAB TAB will do

comment What is “set environment” variables for?
if it's not in the PATH you can run it using it's full or relative path: in current directory a relative path could then be ./exectutablefile or full path /home/theuser/myexectuablefile

using eSATA as connection would be equal to internal, unsure about USB2 but it will surely not be optimal

comment Why is a FLAC encoded from a decoded MP3 bigger than the MP3?
that's my point, by definition so there is no optimization. if the defintion is max quality, then there is nothing to optimize

comment Why is a FLAC encoded from a decoded MP3 bigger than the MP3?
FLAC (and PNG) are lossless, so saying that those are optimized for quality don't make sense.

comment Free command line archivers
gzip in itself is not an arhiver (just compressor), need tar (or similar) as well for any archiving. But gzip is not the only way to compress a tar archive either so gzip is hardly enough.
